Lys Assia

Lys Assia was a Swiss singer best known for her participation in the Eurovision Song Contest. She notably won the very first contest in 1956 with the song "Refrain," representing Switzerland. That year, she performed two songs, "Refrain" in French and "Das alte Karussell" in German. Lys Assia returned to Eurovision in 1957 and 1958, achieving eighth place with "L'Enfant que j'étais" and second place with "Giorgio," respectively. Her entries showcased her versatility, singing in French, German, and Italian. She remains a significant figure in Eurovision history as the inaugural winner.
