Estonian public broadcaster ERR has announced that Eesti Laul, Estonia's annual national selection, will once again determine the nation's representative for the 71st Eurovision Song Contest in 2027, to be held in Burgas.

The competition is set for Saturday, January 30, 2027, at the Unibet Arena in Tallinn, featuring 12 songs vying to represent the Baltic country on the Eurovision stage.

Song submissions opened on September 4, 2026, and will close on October 8, 2026. Karmel Killandi, Editor-in-Chief of ERR’s Entertainment Programmes, highlighted Estonia's versatile musical talent, saying, “Estonia has shown the world that we can sing and dance, rap and rock. How we will surprise the world this time is in the hands of our outstanding songwriters and performers.”

Last year’s Eesti Laul champion was Vanilla Ninja, a well-known Estonian pop group which had previously represented Switzerland in Eurovision 2005, underscoring Estonia’s strong pop music tradition.

Estonia’s Eurovision Legacy

Estonia made its Eurovision debut in 1994 and has steadily built a strong presence in the contest. In 2001, Estonia became the first former Eastern Bloc country to win Eurovision with the song “Everybody” performed by Tanel Padar, Dave Benton, and 2XL. Dave Benton notably made history as the first Black winner of Eurovision.

The following year, Estonia hosted the Eurovision Song Contest in Tallinn and secured a joint third-place finish with the song “Runaway” by Sahlene.

More recently, Estonia celebrated another podium finish when Tommy Cash achieved third place at Eurovision 2025 in Basel with his hit “Espresso Macchiato,” a performance that was widely acclaimed.
