The 2026 Eurovision Song Contest, held in Vienna and won by Bulgaria's "Bangaranga!" performed by DARA, showcased the growing global influence of the event beyond just the live performances. A newly published Eurovision Song Contest Brand Impact Report outlines the extensive musical, digital, and economic impact tied to the contest.
Massive Global Reach in Music and Streaming
The 35 songs of the 2026 contest accumulated 583 million global streams across audio and video platforms by early August 2026. Notably, 16 songs surpassed 10 million streams each. The report highlights that 85% of streaming activity occurs well outside the three-week contest period, underscoring the lasting popularity of Eurovision music. Across 190 songs released between 2021 and 2025, there have been 15 billion streams globally, with standout hits like Rosa Linn’s Snap reaching 3.5 billion streams and Loreen’s Tattoo exceeding 2.2 billion.
Multilingual Music and Diverse Audiences
Eurovision 2026 featured a record 22 languages on stage, with 20 entries incorporating languages other than English and 11 performed entirely in non-English languages. Of the top 10 most-streamed songs, six were in other languages, including Finnish and Greek, represented by Finland’s Liekinheitin and Greece’s Ferto.
Digital Engagement and Online Communities
Official Eurovision content generated 2.1 billion views across social media platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube during the 2026 season. TikTok surpassed four million followers, contributing 872 million views in the first five months of the year. Instagram and Facebook also saw record viewership for Eurovision content. The Grand Final’s YouTube broadcast attracted 5.43 million unique viewers, a year-on-year increase of 4.6%.
Online communities continue to expand, with the r/eurovision subreddit reaching over 372,000 members and the official Eurovision WhatsApp community exceeding 105,000 followers. These digital spaces enhance fan engagement beyond the live shows.
Growing and Younger Audience Demographics
The 2026 Grand Final attracted a notably younger audience, with 22% of viewers under 35 and the 15–24 age group achieving an average 54.8% viewing share—a fourfold increase over typical primetime shares. Austria, the host country, saw a remarkable 91% viewing share among 12–29-year-olds. Eurovision's growing appeal among youth is also reflected in the high proportion of TikTok followers aged 18–24.
Economic and Cultural Benefits for Host City Vienna
Eurovision 2026 engaged more than 87,000 ticket holders from 86 countries and 148 territories participated in voting. The event drew 150,000 visitors to the Eurovision Village and is estimated to boost Vienna’s economy by around €57 million, creating approximately 550 full-time equivalent jobs.
Beyond the arena, Eurovision’s influence spread to at least 13 venues in Vienna, which held dedicated events, while cultural institutions incorporated Eurovision-themed programming, embedding the contest into the city’s broader cultural life. The success mirrors impacts seen in previous host cities like Basel (2025), Malmö (2024), and Liverpool (2023), each experiencing significant tourism and economic uplift linked to the contest.
Accessibility and Inclusive Experiences
The 2026 contest made strides in accessibility, providing sign-language interpretation for all 35 songs performed by Deaf sign artists from the international community. At venues, services included audio description, speech-to-text, support for Bluetooth hearing aids, vibration vests for the Deaf and hard of hearing, and accommodations for neurodivergent visitors.
Looking Ahead
With the end of the 2026 contest season, anticipation builds for upcoming Eurovision events including the Junior Eurovision Song Contest returning to Malta in October, featuring young performers aged 9 to 14, and the inaugural Eurovision Song Contest Asia set for November in Bangkok.
The report underscores Eurovision’s enduring ability to unite musicians and audiences worldwide, offering a lasting platform for new music discovery and a celebration of diversity united by music.
