Sweden is gearing up for the 71st Eurovision Song Contest, which will take place in Burgas in 2027. The national broadcaster SVT has officially opened the submission window for songs wishing to compete in Melodifestivalen 2027, the popular national selection process for Sweden’s Eurovision entry.

The submission period started on Friday, 21 August, and will remain open for three weeks, closing on Friday, 11 September. Aspiring artists and songwriters can submit their compositions via the official Melodifestivalen website, where detailed rules for the 2027 competition are also provided.

Melodifestivalen 2027 will feature 30 selected songs competing for the chance to represent Sweden at Eurovision. This follows a record-breaking submission period before the 2026 Melodifestivalen, which received an unprecedented 3,888 entries—surpassing the previous record of 3,832 songs from 2011, and marking an increase of over a thousand entries compared to 2025’s 2,794 submissions.

The most recent Melodifestivalen winner, FELICIA, took the energetic dance track "My System" to the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 held in Vienna. The song enjoyed considerable success in Sweden, topping both the official singles and radio airplay charts for several weeks and reaching the Grand Final stage at Eurovision.
