The Philippines has selected its first-ever representative for the inaugural Eurovision Song Contest Asia 2020. CARMELLE will perform the song Sobra-Sobra in Bangkok on 14 November.
The choice came from Philippine Selection Night, held on 30 August, where ten emerging Filipino artists competed for the honor. The national selection show was hosted by Vice Ganda and was streamed live on the Eurovision Song Contest YouTube channel.
The voting system combined scores from three sources: a professional jury (40%), viewers in the Philippines (40%), and a "Rest of the World" vote (20%). CARMELLE's Sobra-Sobra emerged victorious, with Broken Beyond Repair by SAGA finishing second and Mapadama by JM Dela Cerna and Marielle Montellano placing third.
CARMELLE has gained national recognition through reality shows such as The Voice Kids, where she placed first runner-up, and Tawag ng Tanghalan, which she won, as well as participating in Pinoy Big Brother.
The song Sobra-Sobra was written by Nica del Rosario and Mat Olavides.
