Latvian broadcaster LSM has announced a significant development for the country’s Eurovision 2027 selection, Supernova. For the first time since its inception over a decade ago, Supernova will move from a television studio setting to the much larger Xiaomi Arena in the capital, Riga, which can hold 14,500 spectators.

The 2027 edition of Supernova will take place on Saturday, 6 February, and will feature a condensed format without the previous semi-final stage. Instead, the competition will be a single-night live event designed as an arena spectacle.

The selection format will involve both an international jury and the Latvian public voting on the initial lineup of songs. The three highest-scoring acts will advance to a Supernova "superfinal," where all votes will reset and the finalists will perform again. Ultimately, the Latvian viewers alone will decide the winner, who will represent Latvia at the 71st Eurovision Song Contest in Bulgaria.

LSM opened submissions for Supernova 2027 on 1 August, closing them on 1 October, with the participant lineup expected to be revealed in November. Information regarding song submissions and ticket sales is available on the official website supernova.lsm.lv.

Previous winner Atvara, who represented Latvia in Vienna following his 2026 Supernova victory, shared encouragement for aspiring Eurovision artists, calling Supernova "the turning point" of his career and urging musicians to submit their songs to potentially reach the same milestone.
