The Finnish national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest, Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu (UMK), continues its rise in popularity as the event for 2027 is announced. The grand final will take place on Saturday, 20 February 2027, at Tampere's Nokia Arena.
In 2026, nearly 20,000 people from 26 countries, alongside Finnish audiences, attended UMK, indicating growing international interest. UMK 2027 will offer live broadcast shows, including pre-parties and after-parties across three floors of the arena running until after 2 a.m. local time. Attendees will also have the opportunity to experience the afternoon dress rehearsal where international juries assign their points.
Tickets for both the live evening event and dress rehearsal will be available starting Thursday, 1 October, from 08:00 CEST at lippu.fi/UMK.
This year, UMK attracted 481 applications from Finnish artists, close to the record set in 2026. A professional jury along with five public juries selected seven competing songs. The contestants will be revealed during a live Yle broadcast on Wednesday, 13 January 2027. The songs will then be released individually on weekdays between 14 and 22 January.
Tapio Hakanen, chair of the UMK professional jury and Managing Editor of Yle Music, described the lineup as diverse, highlighting a band with international aspirations, a dance-oriented duo, a cinematic and dramatic entry, a broadly appealing artist, a modern anthem with distorted guitars, an artist presenting a new fierce dance style, and a track featuring a crescendoing kantele melody.
UMK has grown in stature throughout the 2020s, becoming one of the most discussed national selections within Eurovision fandom and an important platform for Finnish music. Many UMK songs have become major hits on Finnish radio and streaming services.
