Canada Joins Eurovision Song Contest in 2027

Canada is set to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest for the first time in its history at the 71st edition in 2027, which will be hosted in Bulgaria. This marks Canada as the first new country to join Eurovision since Australia debuted in 2015.

Broadcaster Participation and Membership

The country's national public broadcaster, CBC/Radio-Canada, recently became a full member of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), enabling Canada's eligibility to compete. However, details regarding how the Canadian artist and song will be selected have not yet been announced, with more information expected later in the year.

Marie-Philippe Bouchard, President and CEO of CBC/Radio-Canada, commented on the announcement, highlighting the celebration of Canadian culture and the opportunity for Canadian talent to be showcased on the international Eurovision stage.

Canada's Eurovision History

While Canada has never competed before, the country has historic connections to Eurovision. The most notable is former Canadian singer Céline Dion, who won the Eurovision Song Contest 1988 representing Switzerland with the song “Ne partez pas sans moi.”
